Department Summary:
Bridgewater State University’s Department of Health and Kinesiology is a hub for innovative health and exercise science education. The department houses majors in Exercise Physiology, Health Studies, Health Science (pre-Occupational Therapy, pre-Physical Therapy, and pre-Athletic Training), Physical Education (Athletic Performance and Health Fitness, Motor Development Therapy/Adapted Physical Education, Recreation, Teacher Licensure), and Public Health, as well as minors in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Coaching, Recreation, Health Promotion, Health Resources Management, and Adapted PE/PA. Graduate offerings include an MS in Physical Education and an MEd in Health Promotion.
Through hands-on learning and community engagement, we prepare public and community health professionals, educators in physical and adapted physical education, coaches, and fitness leaders to provide exceptional leadership and enhance quality of life across the region and the Commonwealth.

Essential Duties:
The Department of Health and Kinesiology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Exercise Physiology. We seek an innovative educator and scholar who is prepared to engage students in classroom and laboratory settings, and who brings a strong foundation in applied exercise science, clinical exercise physiology, or related areas of human performance. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to scholarly inquiry and to inclusive, student-centered teaching. We are especially interested in educators who use active, inquiry-based, and culturally responsive approaches that inspire and support students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology and related areas such as exercise testing and prescription, clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, and fitness assessment.
- Guide and mentor students in the human performance laboratory, including research activities, applied testing, and experiential learning
- Provide academic advising to students in the Exercise Physiology program and related areas.
- Support students in undergraduate research, senior capstone projects, and professional preparation.
- Foster inclusive and engaged teaching and advising practices that respond to the needs of first-generation college students, students of color, and students from underrepresented or underserved backgrounds.
- Maintain an active program of research that creates opportunities for student involvement and scholarly growth.
- Contribute to departmental and university service and actively engage in community partnerships.
- Participate in curriculum development, program review, and accreditation activities that strengthen the department’s academic programs.
Opportunities to teach in the graduate program and summer courses, with additional compensation, are available.
Required Qualifications:
1. Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related field to be completed by August 31, 2026.
2. Evidence of knowledge, preparation, and skills to teach, advise, and mentor students in exercise physiology and related areas.
3. Evidence of scholarly activity or potential for research.
4. Demonstrated ability to use or readiness to learn to use exercise physiology laboratory equipment, including tools such as metabolic carts, body composition measures, and electromyography (EMG) systems.
5. Demonstrated commitment to engaged student learning and inclusive excellence, with sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.
2. Evidence of knowledge, preparation, and skills to teach, advise, and mentor students in exercise physiology and related areas.
3. Evidence of scholarly activity or potential for research.
4. Demonstrated ability to use or readiness to learn to use exercise physiology laboratory equipment, including tools such as metabolic carts, body composition measures, and electromyography (EMG) systems.
5. Demonstrated commitment to engaged student learning and inclusive excellence, with sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certifications such as ACSM-EP, ACSM-CEP, NSCA-CSCS, NSCA-CPSS, SCCC-CSCCa, or other nationally recognized advanced credentials in exercise physiology, applied exercise science, or strength and conditioning.
Experience in laboratory-based teaching, applied settings, or clinical exercise physiology.
Experience with course development, including online or hybrid instruction.
Experience with educational technologies that support teaching and advising, including learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard) and enrollment management or student success systems (e.g., Banner, Navigate).
Evidence of an active line of research with potential for student involvement and contribution to the field of exercise physiology or human performance science.
Demonstrated involvement in professional organizations reflecting a commitment to disciplinary engagement, networking, and ongoing professional development.
Demonstrated success or strong potential in building community partnerships, securing funding, or integrating students into research.
Experience in laboratory-based teaching, applied settings, or clinical exercise physiology.
Experience with course development, including online or hybrid instruction.
Experience with educational technologies that support teaching and advising, including learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard) and enrollment management or student success systems (e.g., Banner, Navigate).
